DREAM DOLL

Created from a dream, literally from a dream that Dona Doye had. Dona is an artist and one of the most creative people I have ever met. She and I created Cibado together. Although we are no longer partners I fully credit her with the design and idea behind this leather doll - creature - being. With the patterning and sewing of this doll I was able to help craft this creature to life. We made a dozen or so between 2008-2011.

Over the years I had been wanting to re-visit them - and finally I did, in the spring of 2020, amidst the unfolding pandemic. Possibly an odd time but it felt like the perfect time. As was the case for many, the pandemic’s impact on my life was drastic and life-altering. The Mr. and I needed to leave Colorado behind and move. We had a very short window of time to pack up our life that included our 2 small businesses.

As the time in my studio was coming to a close I procrastinated the packing process and warded off the sadness and frustration by resurrecting this doll because it makes me smile. And it needed a mask.

Perhaps it will make you smile as well.

This was exactly the right time to bring them back to life. They are meant to be silly, put a smile on your face and bring a bit of joy to your world.
